Supression system limitations

I have an extra hazard occupancy classification and according to NFPA 13 section 8.2, the system area limitation is 40,000 sq. ft.  This facility has been sub divided into 10 zones all on their own riser.  One of the sections exceeds this 40,000 sq. ft. limit and was told to comply with NFPA 13 8.2.  They resubmitted dividing the area into (2) sections, BUT they are still both on the same riser.  Is that not still (1) system exceeding the area limitation?
Any help appreciated.

It appears to me they still have one system protecting over 40,000 square feet. This is not permitted. The way I interpret NFPA 13 8.2.4, even if they separate the area into two areas it still does not meet this section. The last sentence of NFPA 13 8.2.4 states "The maximum system size shall comply with 8.2.1."

I hope this helps.
