I live in a two bedroom apartment at an apartment complex, and I am planning on buying a gas grill which will be placed on my balcony.

-   If the propane cylinder is less than 1 lb, is it legal?

-   In case it is not legal, is a small tabletop grill legal?

307.5.1 Liquefied-petroleum-gas-fueled cooking devices. LP-gas burners having a LP-gas container with a water capacity greater than 2.5 pounds (1.14 kg) [nominal 1 pound (0.454 kg) LP-gas capacity] shall not be located on combustible balconies or within 10 feet (3048 mm) of combustible construction.

Exception:
1. One- and two-family dwellings.

This section restricts LP-gas burners to the small tabletop grills.These restrictions are based upon a series of multi-familiy building fires that provided sufficient justification to establish the restriction.
