Some interesting thoughts have arisen with our Development Review Staff regarding the need for a County Ordinance to address the lack of access to private single family dwellings via private driveways. Some of these driveways have bridges over creeks not capable of supporting fire apparatus, over growth of trees and other vegetation making them impassable to fire apparatus, and the proverbial tight turning radius or lack of turning radius once down the driveway. Some of these driveways are over 1000' in length.

As we all know this is a touchy subject...property owners rights and all. This has caused some serious concern for our fire department and even some damage to brand new apparatus. The problem also has long-term, maintnenace issues associated with it.

Does anyone have any thoughts, ideas, or remedies you care to share? Thanks in advance for your help.
